The British Institute of Persian Studies has three broad research programmes, each managed by a Programme Director. It is usual for the Programme Director to be given a stipend of £3,000 per year for his/her own specific project.  In addition s/he is responsible for overseeing an annual budget of £12,000 which is used to finance research grants for scholars and students who apply to the Institute for assistance.  S/he will be expected to take an active role on the BIPS Research Committee and attend the BIPS annual workshop, where research funded by our grants is presented.  The successful applicant should demonstrate a willingness to include as many topics and disciplines as possible in their Programme, whilst remaining coherent.   BIPS is also looking to engage with other academic institutions, possibly leading to joint ventures and initiatives, and the Programme Director should take a lead on such initiatives.

We are looking to appoint new Directors for our Ancient, Medieval and Modern Programmes. The position lasts for 3 years, commencing from August 2018. The successful candidate should have a PhD, must be employed by a British higher education institution or museum, and demonstrate an ability to lead and coordinate projects and networks.   We would hope the successful candidate would be able to join the Research Committee in spring 2018.

Applications for the post should be sent by email to Dr Lloyd Ridgeon, the Chair of the Research Committee, (Lloyd.ridgeon@glasgow.ac.uk) with a copy to the Executive Officer (bips@britac.ac.uk) . Informal approaches may also be made to Dr Ridgeon.   Please set out your plans for the Programme you would wish to direct in no less than 1500 words.

Applications close on 1 November 2017.
