Memorial event in honour of the late
Dr Michael Axworthy
The event will begin on Friday evening with a talk by Rt Hon Jack Straw, who became British Foreign Secretary very soon after Dr Axworthy’s tenure as head of the Iran section at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. He will be speaking on his recent book, The English Job: Understanding Iran and Why It Distrusts Britain.
Saturday morning programme, sponsored by BIPS, will include a lecture by Archbishop Paul Gallagher and chaired by Sally Axworthy on The Vatican and Peace-making in the Middle East. Professor Ali Ansari will chair a panel on Iran, past and present, and conflict-resolution in the Middle East with colleagues Assef Ashraf, Gareth Stansfield, Sussan Babaie, Paul Luft, Stuart Laing and Stuart Horsman.A memorial service for Dr Michael Axworthy will be held Saturday afternoon in the Peterhouse Chapel.The full programme is available to view and download here.
