I.B. Tauris is delighted to announce that it will once again partner with the British Institute of Persian Studies (BIPS) to publish the Studies in the History and Culture of the Persianate World series.

The series focuses on the history and culture of the Persianate world (Iran and nearby regions influenced by Persian language and culture such as Central Asia, the Caucasus, Anatolia, and South Asia) from the coming of Islam to modern times. It reflects BIPS’s role in stimulating and promoting research on all aspects of Persian and Iranian Studies, and provides an outlet for leading scholarship in the field. It welcomes both monographs and edited volumes.

Forthcoming publications in the series include Nahid Assemi’s Piety and Politics in Qajar Iran: The Takkiyya Mu’avin al-Mulk in Kermanshah, an innovative art historical study of an important Qajar architectural monument. In addition, a volume edited by Saeed Talajooy comprises a collection of essays on the Iranian playwright and cinematographer Bahram Beyzaie, entitled The Plays and Films of Bahram Beyzaie: Origins, Forms and Functions.

The British Institute of Persian Studies is the UK’s foremost learned society dedicated to promoting and supporting scholarship and research excellence on all aspects of Iran and the wider Persianate world, and to increasing public understanding and knowledge of this region. BIPS is one of the British International Research Institutes supported by the British Academy.

I.B. Tauris publishes radical, insightful and representative non-fiction books on the Middle East and the Islamic World, offering the latest in-depth research on and accessible introductions to the key topics and debates from across the region. In 2023, I.B. Tauris celebrates its 40th anniversary. It was founded in London by Iradj Bagherzade and became an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing in 2018.

Professor Andrew Peacock, the series editor, commented “BIPS are delighted to be publishing with I.B. Tauris again, and look forward to bringing the rigorous and innovative scholarship in the field of Persian studies for which our books are known to wider audiences through this collaboration”.

Professor Charles Melville, President of BIPS, echoed this view, remarking that “the renewal of our association with I.B. Tauris provides an exciting opportunity to revitalise our publication strategy and expand the reach and impact of our research projects”.

David Avital, Editorial Director of I.B. Tauris, commented “We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with the British Institute of Persian Studies and to have the Studies in the History and Culture of the Persianate World series returning to its original home here at I.B. Tauris. This year we are celebrating I.B. Tauris’ 40th birthday and publishing world-leading scholarship on Persia and Iran has been central to our mission since the list was founded. Together with BIPS we are looking forward to building an even stronger platform for serious writing about Persianate culture and history and to bringing that work to new readers across the world.”
