Die qājārischen Felsreliefs: eine kunst- und kulturwissenschaftliche Studie

Dr Hubertus von Gall and Professor Paul Luft

Rock reliefs are one of the most impressive historical and art historical monuments in Iran. After more than a millennium, the second Qajar ruler Fath’ali Shah (1797-1834) re-discovered and used this form of representing royal power in the public sphere.

“Die qājārischen Felsreliefs” (The Qajar rock reliefs) is the first comprehensive and detailed study of these monuments in stone. In this volume the authors have not only explored their cultural and historical background but also deciphered the inscriptions that  surround these works of art, hence providing an insight into the ruling family.

The volume is published by the DAI-Tehran, as part of the series Archäologie in Iran und Turan, Bd 18.
